THE HIVE LETTERFORM
This project delves into spatial typography, where a single 3D letterform is sculpted using materials like blue foam and plaster. The design is inspired by the architectural features of Nanyang Technological University, famously known as "The Hive," with its distinctive structural elements influencing the nuances of the letterform.
The design process was thorough, starting with a detailed type study through black lettering, modular type design, and digital exploration in Illustrator. The final 3D form, with its intricate nuances and interventions, was meticulously crafted using blue styrofoam, plaster, and several layers of sanding to perfect the structure.
By merging architectural nuances with skillful spatial typography, the Hive letterform comes to life, highlighting the impact of cross-disciplinary influences in design ideation.
