MYRIAD WORLDS
By 2040, the total anthropomass on Earth is projected to nearly triple the total living biomass, highlighting the growing dominance of human-made materials over nature. This project responds to this reality by developing an online image generator that creates collages blending natural and artificial elements.
Through complementary juxtaposition, the generator produces visually striking compositions that not only serve as large-scale aesthetic pieces but also provoke awareness of humanity’s impact on nature and its exploitation of natural resources.
The composition of the generative images was organized in layers, each assigned to a specific component of the final image. The base layer formed the background, followed by layers for random objects in the first and second quadrants, roads and foreground elements, natural components, and more. Extensive trial and error were required to structure the layers effectively, ensuring the final image remained visually compelling despite the randomized elements.
An A5 booklet was created featuring the generated collages, based on the concept of "opening doors to a new world." Each door revealed a randomized collage combining nature with absurd objects, offering an "encounter with nature." Images were sourced from free-use platforms such as Unsplash and Pexels, and the door design was crafted in Illustrator, utilizing generative recolor to create variations.
The collages can be curated manually by navigating through the layers using conditionals, or alternatively, generated randomly at specified intervals based on the viewer's preference. The final images were then presented through a series of mockups, serving as a compelling campaign to raise awareness about the reduction of biomass.
Myriad Worlds encompasses opening doors to surreal landscapes, where nature collides with the absurd in an unexpected encounter.
